I would like to express my appreciation to the Jersey Skylands Labrador Retriever Club for inviting me to judge their Sweepstakes. I want to say how very honored I felt with this invitation.
Everything about this club is motive for my wanting to go back there. Since the first time I was to JSLRC, just as a breeder, I felt this was a club and a show that would be in my appointment schedule for every year. The people are so kind, so fraternal. The environment during the show and all through the weekend is so friendly that I think this must be part of every breeder who understands a show as a special moment in the breed.
It is unnecessary to talk about the organization since, just by observing the devotion of the members of the Club, it is possible to understand why everything works so well. Beginning with the reception of the judges in the hotel with a personalized and so useful souvenir gift until the end of the show, everything was thought of in the minutest of details and with lots of care.  Unforgettable!

This lovely black bitch came from one of the hardest quality classes of the day. Very nice compact bitch, typical coat, feminine head, nice reach of neck well placed in correct shoulders. I very much liked her body, deep in chest and nice forechest, very good spring of ribs, very nice lay back and long shoulders. Correct topline with a well set tail. I liked to see her well muscled hindquarters and short hocks. This harmonic construction gives to this bitch a correct movement with steady, driving action. She was my Best Opposite in Sweeps.

Many thanks for inviting me to judge Jersey Skylands LRC. Everyone made us so welcome and were very friendly. Overall I found the males were reasonably good and I was very happy with my winners. Winners dog who became a US Champion on the day was Tameric’s Hot Rod at Cedarwood and
Res. Winners was Bellwether Progression.
My main worry was that some of the dogs were carrying too much weight over the shoulders and too many overdone heads.

A good entry of 147 bitches to judge. Overall the quality was good with each class producing some lovely exhibits. Heads were excellent with the kindness and femininity I was looking for. Fronts were correct in most cases and toplines were level. On the debit side I found the main problem was movement which resulted in many nice bitches losing out. My final line up for the major awards was excellent and a pleasure to sort out. My eventual Winners Bitch came from Open Yellow and was Allegheny’s Tag-A-Long with the Res. Winner being the black from the 12-18 months class Tabatha’s Pristine who incidentally was Res. Winners Bitch at all three shows over the three days.

Over the years that I have judged in the USA this kennel always produces a beautifully consistent type. Of her entries that were under me this was the best by far. Just 14 months old this superb black was in outstanding form. Her outline is so good and she shows to great advantage and is at one with her handler. Gorgeous head and expression, good front and feet, excellent shoulder angulation, level topline and lovely quarters. She was in full bloom and moved very easily and true. In the challenge for the winners bitch with the winner of the Open Yellow class. I just felt the yellow shaded her on overall maturity and therefore had to be content with Res. Winners. I am sure she will gain her title and go on to have a successful career.

This lovely yellow really took my eye. Presented in beautiful bloom and condition. I liked her size. Her outline and balance were excellent. Kind head with good eye shape and colour. Her neck and shoulders were correct and flowed into her level topline. Excelled in hindquarter with plenty of width and good angles. She moved with drive around the ring and never put a foot wrong. It was certainly her day and she was handled to perfection and I had no hesitation in awarding her Winners Bitch.
